Tomoko Barclay
Academy Manager
As the Academy Director, Tomoko’s vision and hard work over the last 30 years has helped shape the academy to what it is today. Her passion for the sport and running the business shows through her enthusiasm to take on all tasks big or small, whether it be answering emails to potential clients or organising tournaments and camps for both domestic and international students.
Fun fact: Loves animals and can be seen walking her dogs around the area daily!

David Barclay
ATP Professional / Club Coach

– Loves coaching motivated young players looking to take their game to the next level
Leon Naude
Ex-Professional / Club Coach
As a former ATP professional with vast experience and knowledge of the sport, Leon aims to develop a life skill that goes beyond just playing tennis. He has coached professional doubles teams including Visser/Aldrich and Annacone/Van Rensburg, with both teams obtaining World No. 1 rankings.
Fun fact: Leon is also a fantastic golf player and welcomes a challenge from anyone who dares!

– Working on psychology and understanding of self on and off the court
– Young players looking to build an edge or X factor in their games
– Advanced players looking to build their own style of play


Yuko Takahashi
Junior Development Coach
Yuko is one of the most beloved and hardest working staff here at the academy. Her true passion lies in coaching beginner to intermediate students and teaching them the fundamentals and to gain an appreciation for the game. A gentle and caring soul, she is very capable of coaching both young students and adults who are looking to build or rebuild their games from the ground up. You will likely also see her keeping our clay courts in pristine condition so be sure to say hello as you walk by!
Fun fact: She holds two Masters’ degrees in Agriculture and Science Education from University of Meiji & Tokyo Gakugei University in Japan!

Bryan Chen
Club Coach / Physiotherapist
Fun fact: 4 time Ontario University Athletics Men’s Tennis Champion and loves bubble tea!

– Left-handed, recommended for left-handed players
– Building technique and point play strategies
– Brings physiotherapist element to coaching and training


Stevie Williams
Club Coach
Surfer hair & sand in places he’d never thought of. Stevie is a regular at VBT. A determined tennis player himself, Stevie is the most caring & considerate coach & person we’ve seen on a tennis court. His attention to detail is unparamount. Strives to help his students achieve their goals with a grand smile.
Fun fact: Knows his way around guitar strings and is also an avid surfer on the northern beaches

Sohei Hagino
Club Coach / Stringer / Barista
From a student turned into a coach here at the academy, Sohei has grown into a young man who is multi-dimensional and capable of handling any task he is given. He is a fantastic hitting partner for intermediate to advanced players and specialises in coaching students of all ages from beginner to intermediate levels. He is also the resident clubhouse stringer so you will likely see him working hard both on and off the court!
Fun fact: Has a twin brother Kohei!

Ragheel Iyer
Manager of Operations
Another familiar face for all visitors, Ragheel has trained and worked here for several years now. He is extremely passionate about tennis and business and has combined his interests to manage the operations at the academy. Whilst most of his work is done off the court to ensure the academy continues to grow and achieve its targets, he also loves to have a hit and help to any of the students or casual visitors who are looking for advice on their game.
Fun fact: He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business with an Honours in Finance from UTS!
