Vince Barclay

Head Coach and Academy Founder

A highly recognized elite coach with over 40 years’ experience, Vince has coached tennis professionals including Rennae Stubbs (qualification), Jamie Morgan (qualification), and numerous junior players (college scholarships). He has travelled with and coached alongside Tony Roche (16 GS), who is also a close friend and frequent visitor at the academy.

Fun fact: Loves telling jokes and ensuring everyone leaves with a smile!

Tomoko Barclay

Academy Manager

As the Academy Director, Tomoko’s vision and hard work over the last 30 years has helped shape the academy to what it is today. Her passion for the sport and running the business shows through her enthusiasm to take on all tasks big or small, whether it be answering emails to potential clients or organising tournaments and camps for both domestic and international students.

Fun fact: Loves animals and can be seen walking her dogs around the area daily!

– Organising all events
– Liaising with all domestic and international clients
– Photography and media for all students

David Barclay

ATP Professional / Club Coach

As a touring professional, David spends most of his time traveling and playing tournaments on the ATP circuit, primarily across the Asia-Pacific region. During his training blocks back at the academy, he enjoys coaching young tennis players that are also looking to become professionals by providing them a mixture of technical and mental advice, helping them build their own successful careers.

Fun fact: “The ‘60s was the best decade for music, no contest.”

 – Point play and match tactics
 – Loves coaching motivated young players looking to take their game to the next level

Nathan Mckay

Strength & Conditioning Trainer

As the Head Coach for SportSpeed Physical Intelligence since its inception in 2010, Nathan has worked with athletes at the highest levels of their sport, including tennis, rugby, basketball, netball, and track & field. Nathan has partnered with us at the academy as we share the same passion of working at the grassroots level and helping young athletes become Australia’s next shining stars.

Fun fact: He was a competitive junior tennis player!

 – Group and private fitness sessions
 – Helping young players gain the physical advantage through their fitness
 – Motivating and training clients to build mental toughness

Leon Naude

Ex-Professional / Club Coach

As a former ATP professional with vast experience and knowledge of the sport, Leon aims to develop a life skill that goes beyond just playing tennis. He has coached professional doubles teams including Visser/Aldrich and Annacone/Van Rensburg, with both teams obtaining World No. 1 rankings.

Fun fact: Leon is also a fantastic golf player and welcomes a challenge from anyone who dares!

 – Working on psychology and understanding of self on and off the court
 – Young players looking to build an edge or X factor in their games
 – Advanced players looking to build their own style of play

Yuko Takahashi

Junior Development Coach

Yuko is one of the most beloved and hardest working staff here at the academy. Her true passion lies in coaching beginner to intermediate students and teaching them the fundamentals and to gain an appreciation for the game. A gentle and caring soul, she is very capable of coaching both young students and adults who are looking to build or rebuild their games from the ground up. You will likely also see her keeping our clay courts in pristine condition so be sure to say hello as you walk by!

Fun fact: She holds two Masters’ degrees in Agriculture and Science Education from University of Meiji & Tokyo Gakugei University in Japan!

 – Tennis fundamentals and technique from ages 4 to adult
 – Private and group coaching for kids and adults

Bryan Chen

Club Coach / Physiotherapist

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Bryan has been coaching here at the academy whilst completing his degree in Physiotherapy at Macquarie University. A competitive tennis player himself, Bryan has proved himself to be a great tennis coach and hitting partner for beginner to advanced players of all ages.

Fun fact: 4 time Ontario University Athletics Men’s Tennis Champion and loves bubble tea!

– Left-handed, recommended for left-handed players
– Building technique and point play strategies
– Brings physiotherapist element to coaching and training

Ragheel Iyer

Manager of Operations

Another familiar face for all visitors, Ragheel has trained and worked here for several years now. He is extremely passionate about tennis and business and has combined his interests to manage the operations at the academy. Whilst most of his work is done off the court to ensure the academy continues to grow and achieve its targets, he also loves to have a hit and help to any of the students or casual visitors who are looking for advice on their game.

Fun fact: He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business with an Honours in Finance from UTS!

 – Ensuring everyone is having a good time at the academy

Sohei Hagino

Club Coach / Stringer / Barista

From a student turned into a coach here at the academy, Sohei has grown into a young man who is multi-dimensional and capable of handling any task he is given. He is a fantastic hitting partner for intermediate to advanced players and specialises in coaching students of all ages from beginner to intermediate levels. He is also the resident clubhouse stringer so you will likely see him working hard both on and off the court!

Fun fact: Has a twin brother Kohei!
