Tomoko Barclay
Academy Manager
As the Academy Director, Tomoko’s vision and hard work over the last 30 years has helped shape the academy to what it is today. Her passion for the sport and running the business shows through her enthusiasm to take on all tasks big or small, whether it be answering emails to potential clients or organising tournaments and camps for both domestic and international students.
Fun fact: Loves animals and can be seen walking her dogs around the area daily!

David Barclay
ATP Professional / Pro Coach / Mentor
As a touring professional, David spends most of his time traveling and playing tournaments on the ATP circuit, primarily across the Asia-Pacific region. During his training blocks back at the academy, he enjoys coaching young tennis players that are also looking to become professionals by providing them a mixture of technical and mental advice, helping them build their own successful careers.
Fun fact: “The ‘60s was the best decade for music, no contest.”

Masashi Ikegami (Marshy)
Junior Development & Pro Coach
Masashi, affectionately known as “Marshy,” began his coaching journey under Vince Barclay’s guidance over 25 years ago. Originally from Nagoya, Japan, he has since returned to Australia six times with his students to continue learning and competing, deepening his understanding of coaching through Vince’s mentorship. An experienced coach and formidable player, Masashi brings a wealth of knowledge to the court. Off the court, he has a passion for cooking and is a skilled barista, always ready to make a perfect cup to fuel the team’s day.

Yuko Takahashi
Junior Development Coach
Yuko is one of the most beloved and hardest working staff here at the academy. Her true passion lies in coaching beginner to intermediate students and teaching them the fundamentals and to gain an appreciation for the game. A gentle and caring soul, she is very capable of coaching both young students and adults who are looking to build or rebuild their games from the ground up. You will likely also see her keeping our clay courts in pristine condition so be sure to say hello as you walk by!
Fun fact: She holds two Masters’ degrees in Agriculture and Science Education from University of Meiji & Tokyo Gakugei University in Japan!

Stevie Williams
Club Coach
Surfer hair & sand in places he’d never thought of. Stevie is a regular at VBT. A determined tennis player himself, Stevie is the most caring & considerate coach & person we’ve seen on a tennis court. His attention to detail is unparamount. Strives to help his students achieve their goals with a grand smile.
Fun fact: Knows his way around guitar strings and is also an avid surfer on the northern beaches

Joel Ramos
Club Coach
A tennis player whose love for the sport started in his junir days. His philosophy is to consistently be present and to enjoy the learning process. He is always keen to have a hit and to help players develop their game.
Fun fact: Lived in Japan for 3 years and has achieved N2 level of Japanese proficiency.

Ragheel Iyer
Manager of Operations
Another familiar face for all visitors, Ragheel has trained and worked here for several years now. He is extremely passionate about tennis and business and has combined his interests to manage the operations at the academy. Whilst most of his work is done off the court to ensure the academy continues to grow and achieve its targets, he also loves to have a hit and help to any of the students or casual visitors who are looking for advice on their game.
Fun fact: He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business with an Honours in Finance from UTS!
